SSG (Ret) Arthur Paul Shy

Arthur Paul Shy, son of the late Paul Francis Shy and Eleanor Marie (Martin) Shy, was born May 12, 1948, in Normandy, Missouri. As a young boy, Arthur grew up in the Fenton, Missouri area. He attended Vandover Elementary School in Fenton, and then graduated with the Class of 1966 from Eureka High School in Eureka, Missouri. While in high school, Arthur began his working career and worked at Steak n’ Shake. Shortly after graduation, he entered the United States Army and served in the infantry from 1967 until his retirement in 1994. He had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned several awards and commendations; some of which include: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (2nd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal, Expert Qualification Badge M-16 Rifle, and Expert Qualification Badge Hand Grenade. Arthur was united in marriage to Linda Hughes, and they were blessed with two sons, Donald Wayne Shy (Jody) and Bryan Earl Shy. Arthur married Roberta Perez. Arthur gained two stepchildren: Jirhan and Charmaine from his marriage to Roberta. He then went on to marry Pam Sheely. After Arthur’s retirement from the military, he began working at Auto Zone where he was employed before retiring. He enjoyed visiting with the customers that came in and was very knowledgeable about parts because of his passion for building classic cars and trucks. He was known for lots of hot rods. In his spare time, you could find Arthur either working on a vehicle, fishing, or collecting hot rod memorabilia. He was a member of the Sweet Freedom Motorcycle Club while stationed in Manheim, Geramy and was also a life member of the National Rifle Association. Arthur passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022, in his home having attained the age of 74 years. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. Arthur leaves to cherish his memory, his two sons: Donald Shy (Jody) and Bryan Shy; two stepchildren: Jirhan Clemente and Charmaine Clemente Underwood; and one sister: Priscilla Joan McRoberts (Mike); other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his first wife: Linda Hughes Shy and wife: Pam Sheely Shy. Graveside services with military honors were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2022 in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Waynesville with Chaplain Michael J. Beatty officiating. Serving as escorts and providing military honors were the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of SSG (Ret) Arthur Shy and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
