David Michael Canady

David Michael Canady, son of the late Charles Claybourn and Rena Marie (Whitmore) Canady, was born January 19, 1954 in Tempe, Arizona. As a young boy, David grew up in Imperial Beach, California and graduated from Kaiserslautern American High School in Germany. In 1971, David entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge in 1988 after seventeen years of service. For his faithful service, David attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned several awards and commendations; some of which included: Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon 2nd Award, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal 4th Award, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Driver and Mechanic Badge / Driver-Wheel Vehicle, NCO Professional Development Ribbon 3rd Award, Marksman Badge with M16 Rifle Bar, and the German Marksmanship Badge in Bronze. David served during the Vietnam Era and the Cold War in different capacities in the Army: Combat Medic, Combat Engineer, Drill Sergeant and Platoon Sergeant. David was united in marriage to Helga Theile Canady and they were blessed with three children: David M. Canady, Jr., Nancy Veronika Canady, and Charles Claybourn Canady II. After his military service, David continued his education by obtaining his Bachelor Degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Drury University. He served in the food industry as a manager. In his spare time, David enjoyed history and politics and enjoyed discussing both subjects with anyone that would listen. He was an avid reader and also liked listening to country music. David was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. David passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019 in the Cox Medical Center - South of Springfield, Missouri having attained the age of 65 years. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved him. David leaves to cherish his memory, his five children: David Canady, Jr. (Ann) of Cibolo, TX, Nancy Canady-Berger (Brian) of Independence, MO, Charles Canady (Sandy) of Las Vegas, NV, Lori Kneedler (Chris) of Emmas, PA and Travis Heiberger of the state of Pennsylvania; his girlfriend: Vicki Heiberger of Ava, MO; eleven grandchildren with one on the way; four great grandchildren; several other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife: Helga Canady; and one granddaughter: Dominique Plummer. Graveside services with military honors were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2019 in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Waynesville with David Canady, Jr. officiating. Serving as escorts were family and friends. Military honors were provided by the Missouri Honors Team. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
