Elfriede A. Franklin

Elfriede (Friede) Anneliese Franklin passed away Sunday, March 22, 2020, at Forest Creek Health Care Center in Overland Park, Kansas having attained the age of 88 years. Friede, daughter of the late George and Pauline (Kamm) Schertl, was born September 24, 1931 in Fuerth, Germany where she grew up and attended school. Friede was united in marriage to Forrest (Frank) Leland Franklin at Faith Lutheran Church in St. Robert, Missouri on November 17, 1967 and shared over 33 years of marriage together. They traveled all across the United States visiting and entertaining friends and relatives in their RV. One of their most treasured trips was to Alaska. They also enjoyed fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks. Frank preceded her in death on December 3, 2002. Friede worked at various businesses in St Robert’s including Ben Franklin, Wal-Mart and Boatmen’s National Bank. She loved to garden, can vegetables and putter around outside. She was also a master seamstress and craftswoman. She made many Christmas ornaments and wall hangings that are still enjoyed by her children. Her kids and grandchildren loved to come visit to enjoy her German cuisine. Friede was a charter member of the Faith Lutheran Church of St. Robert and was very active in the church. She moved to Lee’s Summit in 2004 to be closer to her family. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and spending time with them. She continued to travel with friends to many parts of the world including the Panama Canal, Mexico, and Cruising. She also traveled to visit her family over in Germany. Another one of her joys was traveling to the lake house to be with family. Friede leaves to cherish her memory, her three children: Bill Rash (Barbara) of Los Gatos, CA, Caren Knight (Bob) of Shawnee, KS, and Joanne Scheperle (Mike) of Jefferson City, MO; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister: Martha Walenta; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Rudl, sister Lilo, and grandson Spencer. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved her. Memorial Contributions in memory of Elfriede Franklin to the Alzheimer's Association and may be left at the funeral home.
