Joan Louise Wallace

Joan Louise (Adkins) Wallace, daughter of the late Millard and Dorthy (Mangus) Adkins, was born March 22, 1933 in Logan, West Virginia. She passed away at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 in the Columbia Manor Care Center of Columbia, Missouri. She had attained the age of 78 years, 2 months, and 20 days. Joan grew up in Logan, West Virginia and graduated from high school there. Joan met the love of her life, Ellis Parks Wallace in California. They were united in marriage on April 15, 1960 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They shared over 47 years together and many wonderful memories. They were blessed with two children: Dotti and Dwayne. Joan worked as a visual merchandise decorator for the Post Exchange. She traveled amongst the different Exchanges during her career. Joan retired from the Exchange. Joan was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Waynesville. She was part of the Mary Martha Circle at the church. Joan was also a member of the Eastern Star. Joan was a very talented floral designer. In her spare time she enjoyed working in her flower garden and painting ceramics. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Joan leaves to cherish her memory her two children: Dotti Black (Dan) of Mt. Vernon, IL and Dwayne Wallace (Lori) of Ashland, MO; one half brother: Skeet Adkins of West Virginia; two half sisters: Elizabeth Lawson of WV and Sonya Lawson (Billy) of Dempsey, WV; four grandchildren: Andrew Jacob Black, Brittany Janece Black, Taylor Wallace, and Garrett Wallace; three great grandchildren: Aidan Alexander Black, Sydney Jean Black, and Noah Black; several other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with Doug Cage officiating. Soloist Becky Lercher sang “It Is Well With My Soul”, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. Serving as escorts were Taylor and Garrett Wallace, AJ and Dan Black, Robert Smith and Hiram Cooper. Burial followed in the Hopewell Cemetery of Big Piney, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Joan Wallace and may be left at the funeral home.
