John Robert Teufel

John Robert Teufel was born in King City, California, January 21, 1957 to David LaRoy Teufel and Lillie Mae (Crossland) Teufel. King City had six inches of snow that night, the first snow in over 100 years and has not had any since. At the age of two months, he was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and given a very short time to live. He was baptized as a child and with a military father, attended many churches but mostly attended Military Chapel until 1972 when his family associated with First Christian Church of Waynesville, Missouri. He also spent two years at the Idumea Baptist Church but came back to First Christian. He attended Laquey Grade School and Waynesville High School graduating in 1975 with honors. He also attended Rolla University for three semesters before securing a position at Fort Leonard Wood Military Reservation. He was a Fire Inspector for the Fort Leonard Wood Fire Department for nineteen plus years until he was finally medically retired in September 1995 much against his wishes. John was an avid reader and could discuss at great length any subject from the Bible to the great Wars and anything in between. He loved talking with people and on any subject. His great passion was deer hunting, target shooting, fast cars and especially NASCAR racing. He and his friends made the trip to Talladega, Alabama for the spring race every year. He loved drag racing his own Monty Carlo and had a few trophies for his finishes. He also loved teaching others gun safety and how to shoot. He leaves behind to celebrate his life, his Mother and Father, one sister Martha Lois Teufel-Batye of Tampa, FL, one Brother David O’Neil Teufel of Seattle, WA, an uncle, Dexter Crossland (Sally) of Lebanon, MO, four nieces of Tampa, FL and one special friend since 1986 Thomas “Red” DeKorsey of St. Robert, MO, and a host of other relatives and friends. He also leaves two cats, Sugar Ray and Alex and two dogs, Jade and P.J. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him, but continue to remember the fun times you had with him and his great love of life with friends and family. Rest in peace John. You no longer have to struggle for the next breath. “Just Breath” now with God. Celebration of Life services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2013 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Gary Holt officiating. Soloist Becky Lercher sang “Amazing Grace” and the songs “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler and “Go Rest High on that Mountain” by Vince Gill were played. Serving as escorts were Thomas “Red” DeKorsey, Robbie DeKorsey, Tom Harrell, Troy Frey, Guy Hyman and Richard Zarcone. Serving as honorary escorts were Curtiss Curenton, David Frey, Chad Ray, Heather Harrell, Terry Pettijohn and Brendon DeKorsey. Burial followed in the Buckhorn Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of John Teufel to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and may be left at the funeral home.
