Marianne Elisabeth Chaffin

Marianne Elisabeth Chaffin, daughter of the late Maximilian and Babette (Zink) Hacker, was born May 13, 1931 in Bayreuth, Germany. She passed away Friday, January 8, 2010 in her home. Marianne grew up in Bayreuth and graduated from school. She then attended Pharmacy school and worked as a pharmacy technician in Bayreuth. In 1956, a friend invited Marianne to go to a social and there she met her future husband Gerald Chaffin. They were united in marriage on October 5, 1957 in Bayreuth and they shared over 52 years of marriage together and many wonderful memories. Gerald and Marianne were blessed with three daughters: Alice Ellen, Barbara Sue and Robin Lynne. Marianne and her family moved to the Fort Leonard Wood area in 1971. After moving to the area, Marianne began working on Fort Leonard Wood at the Daugherty Bowling Center and Billeting Office. In her spare time, Marianne enjoyed being outdoors working in her garden. She was a wonderful cook and loved baking. She liked to bowl and needlework. Most importantly, she enjoyed her three girls and grandson, spending time with them and the rest of their families. Marianne will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Gerald Chaffin of the home; three daughters: Alice Ellen Bischoff (Robert) of Dixon, MO, Barbara Sue Becker (Gary) of Crocker, MO and Robin Lynne Vaughan (Darrel) of Waynesville, MO; one grandson: Paul Bischoff; several other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Marianne was preceded in death by one brother Helmut Hacker. Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 12, 2010 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with Rev. John Shaw officiating. Marianne’s daughter, Robin Vaughan recalled her wonderful memories of her mother. The song “Amazing Grace” was played and Soloist Greg Gabel sang “Peace in The Valley”. Serving as escorts were Gary Becker, Darrel Vaughan, Bob Bischoff, Roy Doyle, Paul Bischoff, Scott Davison, Joe Petrich and Mike Prindle. Burial followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Marianne Chaffin to the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Cancer Research Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
