Ruby Geneva Benton

Ruby Geneva Benton, daughter of the late Albert Truman and Francis Elizabeth (Martin) Ogle, was born September 5, 1914 in Chadron, Nebraska and passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in the Sunset Village of the Ozarks of St. Robert, Missouri. She had attained the age of 97 years, 6 months and 13 days. As a young girl, Ruby and her family moved to the Bloodland, Missouri area (now part of Fort Leonard Wood). She grew up and attended school there. As a young adult, she then moved to St. Louis and began working. Ruby met the love of her life, Leroy James “Bud” Benton. They were united in marriage on April 24, 1949. They shared over 58 years of marriage together and four children: Gregory, Steven, Sondra and Wanda. In 1963, Ruby and the family moved to Iberia, Missouri where Bud could continue his hobby which was farming. Ruby enjoyed being a farmer’s wife and liked the simple way of life that comes with rural living. She loved taking care of her family and seeing her grandchildren grow up. Ruby made an important decision in her life and became a follower of Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Iberia Christian Church and attended every chance that she could. Ruby will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory her three children: Steven Benton of Iberia, MO, Sondra Wahlman of Springfield, MO and Wanda Benedict of Columbia, MO; one brother: Larry Ogle; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Benton: son, Gregory Benton; three sisters: Belva Hammock, Golda Rigsby and Violet Yunek; and two brothers: Arthur and Albert Ogle. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Christopher Hendrix officiating. The songs “In the Garden” and “Amazing Grace” were played. Serving as escorts were Phil Graves, Alex Poke, Steve Street, Jack Prater, Mike O’Conner and Greg Benton. Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ruby Benton to the organization of the donor’s choice and may be left at the funeral home.
