Sarah H. Williams

Deaconess Sarah Williams was born into the union of Mr. William James and Mrs. Mary Lee Thomas on April 1, 1949 in Lownes County, Mississippi. The family moved to St. Louis, MO shortly after her birth. She attended the public schools of St. Louis and received her GED prior to entering into the Armed Forces Women Army Corp at the age of seventeen. Sarah received her military IET training at Fort McClellan, AL and her AIT training at Fort Sam Houston, TX. She served her country honorably as a medic and administrative specialist for fifteen years before retiring at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Sarah worked for several years at the Fort Leonard Wood Reception Station following her military retirement. Sarah united in marriage May 16, 1977 with SSG Nathaniel L. Williams while assigned to Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. They were later stationed together at Fort Meade, MD, Wurzburg, West Germany and Fort Leonard Wood, MO. They are the proud parents of James and Pha’Beyonne Williams. Sarah accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior during the pastorate of Dr. William R. Boone at the Greater Community Baptist Church. She has been a faithful partner in this ministry for the past thirteen years. She served as Parish Manager and in whatever capacity that was needed joyfully. She has represented the church at district, state and national meetings. Everyone knew and loved Sarah, especially her sense of humor and love of life. Sarah leaves to cherish her memory two children, James and Pha’Beyonne Williams of St. Robert, MO; two uncles, Roy and Gene Smith of St. Louis, MO; one aunt, Louise Watson of St. Louis; four sisters, Inez Thomas of Atlanta, GA, Geraldine Thomas Lee, Anita M. Thomas and Mary A. Thomas of St. Louis, MO; a brother, Michael Thomas of Rolla; five grandchildren, Wueshaon,, Briana, D’Mondre, Dominic of St. Roberts and Essance Williams of Atlanta; three nephews Tarryl Daniels of Atlanta, GA, Christopher Payne and D’Ron Thomas of St. Louis, MO; and five nieces, Michelle Williams, Deatra Thomas, Lekesha Hanks, Chauntel Payne, Shannor Brown, Sharon and Janice Thomas of St. Louis, Mo and a host of cousins and friends. A celebration of life service was held at 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 5, 2009 in the Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church of St. Robert, Missouri with Pastor William R. Boone officiating. Pastor Eddie Goodman called the congregation to celebrate Sarah’s life and Minister Daphne Bradley followed with prayer. Minister Helen Boone read the Old Testament reading and Minister Charles Slider read the New Testament reading. The Greater Community Choir provided music along with Soloist QueShaon Williams. Several family members and friends recalled their wonderful memories of Sarah. Burial with military honors was held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery of St. Louis, Missouri with Pastor William R. Boone officiating. Military honors were provided by the Missouri Honors Team. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sarah Williams to the Pulaski Family Activity Center and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory.
