Tiriah Denene Scott

Tiriah Denene Scott, daughter of Herbert Baldwin and Marvella (Myers) Baldwin Behr, was born August 25, 1966 in Loris, South Carolina. As a young girl, Tiriah and the family moved to North Carolina and grew up in Greensboro and Tabor City. She graduated from Tabor City High School and she furthered her education by obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Columbus State University and her Master’s Degree in Education from Drury University. Tiriah was united in marriage to the love of her life, James Devin Scott. They shared many wonderful memories and years together. They shared three children: Ashleigh, Myles and Emily. Due to James being in the military, Tiriah and the family moved several times, but they settled the last several years in the Waynesville / Ft. Leonard Wood area and she began teaching in the Waynesville R-VI School District. She taught at Pence, Pershing and Wood Elementary Schools as a Kindergarten teacher and has been doing so for the past nine years. In her spare time, Tiriah enjoyed working in her garden and was an avid reader. She was interested in geology, nature and loved to travel. She was an extremely talented teacher and was and advocate for children. She was a member of the Missouri State Teacher’s Association and the National Education Association. She was also a member of the Baha’í Faith. Most importantly, she treasured the time spent with her family and friends. Tiriah passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital of Fort Leonard Wood having attained the age of 45 years, 10 months and 23 days. She was well loved and will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Tiriah leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, James Scott of the home; three children: Ashleigh Baldwin, Myles Scott and Emily Scott; her mother and step-father: Marvella and Owen Behr; her mother-law: Pauline Scott; three sisters in-laws: Mary Scott, Annie Scott and Joya Baldwin; one brother in-law: Jessie Stanley; one daughter in-law Raneeka Scott; three grandchildren: Noah and Bella Baldwin and Myles Scott, Jr.; three siblings: Tangela Stanley, Tracy Baldwin and Herbert Baldwin, Jr.; several other relatives and a host of friends. Tiriah was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Baldwin. Visitation was held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 in the St. Matthews A.M.E. Church of Tabor City, North Carolina. Burial followed in the Singing Union Cemetery of Tabor City. Arrangements were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
